W Family | Fort Worth Newborn Photographer

The other day my daughter and I were driving to a doctor’s appointment, taking a route that was very familiar to us over the last couple of years.

My dad’s cancer treatments coincided with us opening our studio, so we were in this particular part of town almost every day. And my daughter has my sense of direction, thankfully, so she always knows where we are. Now, anytime we are over there it’s either “this is Pepaw’s hospital!” or “are we going to the studio?!”

This week it was the latter. And though it’s still a little bittersweet, I’m so thankful for the experience we had as a family, creating that space. And for the many clients who joined me there, this sweet bunch included.

If this is something that peaks your interest, please don’t be afraid to ask. While I do shoot most newborns in-home, I have had a higher-than-normal amount of inquiries requesting in-studio newborn sessions, so I wanted to share this here as an example of what a lifestyle studio newborn session may look like. Shooting in home is something I love, and highly recommend, however having a space available like this is so helpful for those of you who are coming from out of town, who are moving, or remodeling, whatever it may be… So while we don’t have this particular space any longer, there are fortunately still several local studios available, should the need arise.

Today I wanted to share with you a type of session that you may not often see on my social media, but one that is quickly becoming a favorite of mine—photographing local business owners in their element.

Brand photography is rapidly increasing in popularity as small business owners realize how important high quality, consistent visual content is to their social media and marketing materials….and I am here for it. These kind of sessions are FUN. And, they satisfy both sides of my photography love—-the student in me who always thought I would be photographing commercial design work for large companies, and the artist in me who loves capturing people and their essence.

And of course, from a consumer standpoint, as a very, very visual person, I understand this trend—I can form an opinion about a business in seconds, based on what I see and how things are presented. And right or wrong, this is the direction things are moving.

For example, according to Social Media Today, 40% of consumers are unlikely to become emotionally invested in your business without an online presence. 40%. We (and I say we, because you know I have a love/hate relationship with social media) could be losing almost half of our business by not maintaining a visually strong online presence. Noting this as my reminder to do this myself soon.

Here are some more thoughts on why branding is so important:

“When you and/or your team can be seen throughout your marketing, potential clients will be able to see who they would be working with, get a glimpse into the process, and imagine themselves being a part of that experience. Photos with humans in them take your products and services from seeming unattainable, conceptual or hypothetical, and bring them into reality as something tangible, achievable and desirable.”*

We have since done a second branding session for this local small business, but my right-brain-ness wants me to share in order, so here you are: Cowtown Clay’s owners Kellie and Lindsay, with their real babies and their business baby. Which has, as you may have imagined, completely taken off. These ladies sell out appointments within minutes, and for good reason—the product is so special, and these ladies are the real deal. You can find them on Instagram @cowtownclay, and online at https://www.cowtownclay.com.

I have not blogged in over a year. The very last time was when I needed to get some words down about my time with my dad while he was sick. If I’m honest, pushing that post down has been a weird, subconscious roadblock to sharing here. I just don’t want to do it.

And on that note, I’m so thankful to my wonderful clients who continue to pass my name on, so that my lack of current content hasn’t become a detriment to my business.

However, I know this space is important, and it’s been on my heart recently to start sharing here again, if for no other reason than there are hundreds of special moments from the last almost-two-years that deserve to be seen. I’m not sure if I will be as wordy or thoughtful as I once was, but I hope the joy and love and passion in the images will speak loudly enough.

To start, here are just a handful of photos from a special family during the beautiful wildflower season we had last year. Because it’s winter in Texas; it’s grey and cold outside; and we’re ready for some warmth and some color.
